Men's Silk Pyjamas Guide: Robe, Set and Size

Men's silk loungewear is built from three pieces: a shawl-collar robe, a pair of long trousers and a pair of shorts. Together they cover every way you dress at home, summer and winter. Start with black, anthracite or khaki; for size, look at chest, shoulders and sleeve length for the robe, and your hip measurement for the trousers.
Where silk fits in men's loungewear
For a long time men's loungewear meant tracksuit bottoms and an old T-shirt. Silk adds something else: feeling dressed at home. Opening the door, having coffee on the balcony, joining a video call, you don't feel the need to change.
Silk is generally a light fibre with a smooth surface that absorbs moisture; because it helps balance temperature, it can be worn summer and winter. Its difference from cotton jersey is in the drape: woven silk doesn't bag at the knees and elbows the way a knit does, and a robe falls cleanly from the shoulders. The surface matters too. Glossy charmeuse looks more striking; matte weaves like crêpe de chine or twill look more understated. We explain the differences in types of silk fabric.
Pyjama shirt or robe?
The classic men's pyjama set is a button-up shirt and long trousers. It is good for sleeping but limited around the house during the day: the shirt is either on or off, with nothing in between.
A wardrobe built around a robe is more flexible. You wear it on its own over trousers or shorts, as a layer over a T-shirt, take it off to sleep and put it back on in the morning. One piece, three uses. That is why, if you are starting out with men's silk loungewear, we suggest the robe as the first piece.
The robe: the centre of the set
Collar
A shawl collar is a rounded collar that rolls in one continuous line from the neck down to the belt; it is the collar of the classic men's robe. It covers the chest evenly, forms a clean V with the belt and never looks busy. A kimono-style flat band collar is more relaxed and casual; a shawl collar is more structured and classic.
Length
Knee length is the most practical length for a men's robe. Shorter looks like a bathrobe; ankle length is too long around the house and gets under your feet on the stairs and in the kitchen.
Details
Patch pockets, a belt and edge piping lift a robe from ordinary loungewear to a proper piece. Fine contrast piping sharpens the line of the collar without shouting. The pockets aren't decoration either: you really use them for your phone, glasses and keys.
The JANESIA Shawl-Collar Robe follows that recipe: knee-length, wrist-length sleeves, two patch pockets and a belt. The shawl collar, cuffs and pocket openings have 2 mm piping: off-white on the dark colours, black on off-white. It comes in black, anthracite, burgundy, khaki and off-white, in sizes S to XL.
Bottoms: trousers or shorts?
Trousers work for most of the year. In men's silk trousers the waist is the most important detail. A drawstring waist can press where it is knotted and bunches up under the belt of the robe; a covered elastic waist lies flat and leaves no mark. Side pockets are practical, and a front centre seam gives the trousers a straight line.
Shorts are for summer. On hot nights wear them on their own, on cool mornings under the robe. Shorts that end above the knee don't show under a knee-length robe; with the robe closed, the look stays clean.
The men's Trousers have a covered elastic waist with no drawstring, side pockets and a front centre seam. Both the trousers and the men's Shorts come in five colours, from S to XXL.
Colour
In men's loungewear, colour starts few and dark. Black and anthracite are the easiest; they go with everything and keep the sheen of silk in check. Khaki is a warmer, more natural tone. Burgundy is a classic robe colour that carries character on its own. Off-white is the boldest choice: clean and bright, but it shows sweat and stains more easily.
The simple rule for pairing: buy the robe and the bottoms in the same colour. A single-colour set makes you look taller and needs no thought. If you want to try different colours, choose a dark robe and bottoms in another tone of the same depth, like an anthracite robe with black trousers.
Size
A robe is loosely cut and belted, so your waist hardly matters; chest, shoulder width and sleeve length decide. If the sleeves run to the wrist and you have long arms, a size up may fit better. If the shoulder seam drops well below the edge of your shoulder, the size is too big.
In trousers and shorts, an elastic waist stretches but the hips don't. Measure the widest part of your hips with a tape measure and compare it with the size information on the product page. Woven silk doesn't stretch, so it shouldn't feel tight at the hips and knees when you sit; if you are between two sizes, take the larger. For trouser length, a good guide is a hem that lightly covers the ankle when you stand barefoot.
Separates or a set?
You can buy the three pieces separately, but buying them together in one colour has two advantages: the colours match exactly, and you are ready for every season. Robe and shorts in summer, robe and trousers in winter.
The Lounge Set · 3 Pieces brings the three pieces together, shawl-collar robe, shorts and trousers, in the signature box. If it is a gift, or for a damat bohçası, the bundle of gifts prepared for the groom at a Turkish wedding, the box comes ready; for what else goes into one, see our damat bohçası guide. All men's pieces are in the men's collection.
If you would like to dress in step with your wife or partner, look at the couple sets: the women's and men's pieces come in a single two-tier box with drawers. The shared colours are khaki and black. For ideas, there is our couple pyjama set guide.
Care
Men's silk pieces are cared for like any other silk. The label comes first; the general rule is inside out, 30°C, by hand or on a delicate cycle in a mesh bag, with gentle detergent. No bleach or fabric softener, no rubbing or wringing. Roll in a towel to press the water out, then dry in the shade, on a hanger or flat; no tumble drying.
A note for men in particular: let aftershave, cologne and deodorant dry completely before you get dressed. Alcohol- and oil-based products can mark silk; you see it most at the collar and underarms. Store the robe in its dust bag, in a wardrobe out of the sun, on a broad-shouldered hanger. Details are in our care guide and in how to wash silk.
Frequently asked questions
Can men wear silk pyjamas in summer?
Yes. Silk is generally a light fibre that absorbs moisture. For summer, shorts and a robe are the most comfortable pairing; on very hot nights, shorts on their own are enough.
How long should a men's robe be?
Knee length is the most practical. Shorter looks like a bathrobe; an ankle-length robe gets under your feet around the house.
Can you machine wash men's silk pyjamas?
If the label allows it: inside out, in a mesh bag, on a 30°C delicate cycle with gentle detergent. No bleach or fabric softener, and no tumble drying.
What colour silk robe should a man buy?
For a first piece, black or anthracite is the easiest choice; it goes with any bottoms. For a warmer tone, khaki; for a classic robe, burgundy; for a bold, bright look, off-white.
How do I choose the size when buying silk pyjamas for a man?
A robe is loosely cut and belted, so of all the pieces it tolerates a sizing mistake best. Check the size of a shirt or jacket that fits him well; if he is between two sizes, take the larger.
